How to Cleanse Your Body of Toxins, Naturally

Detox

Why cleanse your body of toxins?

When we hear detox or cleanse, we often think of eating clean, starving ourselves, drinking juices, etc. But cleansing your body of toxins is more than that. There are many ways to cleanse your body of toxins by making small shifts here and there.

One of the biggest reasons people want to detox is to cleanse themselves of toxins. As you probably are aware, we’re all exposed to toxins regularly, but maybe you don’t realize just how many toxins. When you think about it, manufacturers use chemicals to produce just about everything we eat, drink, wear, put on our skin, and use inside our homes and offices.

And your body can find it challenging to deal with all these toxins. Your tissues and cells store these toxins that build up in your body. This build-up can affect many aspects of your health and well-being, including your brain, leading to brain fog and even dementia.

Because it’s so essential to your brain and overall health, let’s get you started on how to cleanse your body of toxins today.

How to cleanse your body of toxins: 8 simple and easy ways

Drink plenty of water

Water helps flush waste products out of your body, so it’s super important from a detox perspective. Starting the day with a glass of warm water and lemon is an easy way to help your body detox. Sipping water through the rest of the day will continue to support your body’s cleansing efforts. Make sure and drink at least half your weight in ounces of water daily.

Apple cider vinegar is another option if you want to mix things up or don’t enjoy the taste of lemon. And you can also drink herbal teas to mix it up further, as teas also help you stay hydrated and flush toxins.

Get plenty of sleep

A good night’s sleep is super important for helping your body reset itself, which extends to detoxing. You’re also more likely to make poor food choices when sleep-deprived, which can mean even more toxins.

Load up on veggies (and fiber generally)

Vegetables are excellent for detoxing, especially beets, kale, spinach, and cilantro. If you struggle to get plenty in your diet, try making a veggie smoothie or juice. Adding apple, carrot and ginger helps to make it taste delicious – perfect even if you’re not a big fan of greens!

Eating veggies will also aid your digestion and regularity to remove waste products from your body. This waste removal is vital as toxins can build up in your digestive tract if not regularly eliminated. A build-up in your digestive tract can make you feel sluggish, tired, and generally not your best.

Getting plenty of fiber means that everything moves through your system more quickly. Veggies and fruits aside, good fiber sources include beans, legumes, nuts and whole grains.

A word of caution when you pick veggies (and fruits!): Go organic as much as you can. Going organic is particularly true for the “Dirty Dozen,” which are more likely to have pesticides and preservatives built up on them. If you’re not eating organic varieties of these, the toxins are passed onto you.

Cut back on sugar

Sugar is essentially a toxin, and most of us eat far too much of it. And it’s having a significant effect on our health and well-being. Deciding to detox from sugar is a definite must when looking to cleanse. It’s not easy, but you’ll likely feel much better.

Exercise regularly

Exercise helps to boost your circulation and support your lymph system. Working up a sweat helps release toxins and is a good move for better digestion.

Reduce stress

Another tip is to stretch throughout the day to get your blood moving and give you a quick and easy energy boost.

When you’re stressed, your body isn’t working as efficiently as it could, and that’s not great news for detox. Being able to manage stress more effectively helps your body to get rid of toxins more easily. Meditation, mindfulness, and journaling are just a few tactics that will help keep emotional toxins to a minimum.

Brush your skin

Gently brushing the skin helps to bring toxins out to be eliminated. I learned about this a few years ago when a friend and I pampered ourselves at a getaway weekend at a spa. (Which, by the way, was fabulous.)

Dry brushing unclogs pores in the exfoliation process. It also helps detoxify your skin by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage. Dry brushing also boosts circulation and aids detoxification. Also, by unclogging pores, it’s easier for the body to sweat and eliminate toxins in your system.

Try deep tissue massage

Because toxins can build up in tissues, deep tissue massages can help eliminate them. Swedish and sports massages both target pressure points, which can release toxins. We may sometimes feel selfish by getting a massage, feeling that it’s an extravagance and not needed. But, it is needed. After your massage, you’ve probably heard your masseuse tell you to drink lots of water. That’s because the water helps to flush out all the toxins.
